Future Datathons

Make sure you stay up to date so you can learn more about the Datathon for Spring 2025.

For the 2024 Datathon, groups of 4 were created and competed on two tracks: Graduate using predictive analytics and Undergraduate using descriptive analytics. Teams had complete freedom to draw conclusions to answer a broad question from the plethora of data provided and create a presentation to showcase the result they had found. Students from CBA, Bellarmine, Seaver, and more used Excel, Python, Tableau, and more to show off their findings, get comfort and practice with real world data, and compete for prizes. All in 24 hours!

Competition and Judging

Alumni and Industry Professionals Came to Judge the Students

A panel of industry experts came to judge, give feedback, and network with students. For both Grad and Undergrad tracks, alumni and judges came to support the current LMU Lions in this competition.

You Are Not Alone

During the 24 Hour Work Period, Professors can offer their help to students.

If you are struggling with where to start, you can reach out for advice from outside resources. Some students utilized professors, online documentation, or advice from students who competed in previous years. Students are welcome to work in the room provided and get a free dinner, on LMU's campus, or in the comfort of their favorite workspace off-campus.

Competition Style

24 Hours to Work and a 10 Min Presentation + 5 Min Q/A

Once the data is released, teams have 24 hours to analyze the data and compile their findings. The data provided is large, requires cleaning, and allows for a plethora of solutions to identify. A broad question will be provided to help guide the data slightly but there are many solutions to find and advise. Teams sign up for their presentations and are able to show off their work to the judges to compete for prizes.
