Interested in coding but feel a bit intimidated? Collaborate with your peers and participate in the Datathon! Use the platform you are most comfortable with and learn new skills from your team. Learn new languages with your peers while competing for prizes. Be a part of a team that removes the stress from coding, let’s make it fun!
What will the team do?
Teams of 4 will utilize the skills they learned in their classes to analyze and present on the data. Any LMU student is welcome as well as groups of various ages. Our goal is for team members to practice collaborating, share their knowledge and experience, and get familiar with programs and processes they will use in datathons.
Datathon vs Hackathon
A Datathon usually revolves around a team that receives a data set and analyzes the data to answer a question or address a problem. A hackaton is a competition with the goal of "hacking in" to a program or process to understand how it works and be able to replicate or improve it. The team with the “best” analysis wins (best varies from datathon to hackathon because of the different goals of each one and are subject to the opinions of judges). Our competition has multiple winners and overall motivates students to learn through experience.
What if I don't have coding skills?
Don’t worry about it! We’ve set up this competition to help students of all skill levels further their knowledge. Having a group helps with the collaboration and distribution of information but if you are still hesitant, you are welcome to compete using other analytics than coding.
What do I get out of this?
You will get concrete experience with programs and processes that make you stand out in job applications, create friendships and connections with like-minded students, and earn a bunch of CBA Advantage points at the same time!
